Overview: O’Brien Civil completed a major earthworks and drainage package of works for the NEWest Alliance ahead of the Yanchep rail extension construction works.
Scope of Work:

Bulk earthworks included excavating 50,000m3 of materials using O’Brien Civil excavators, installation of 10km of pit and pipe, stormwater detention tanks, approximately 13km of drains and culverts, and more than thirty separate FRP pit upgrades.

Detailed earthwork were also completed for a series of rock batter preparations and constructions in addition to V drains, swale drains, and host of other in-ground services.

The O’Brien Civil team was also responsible for the completion of road pavement and brick pavement constructions for access ways and car parks.

Undertaken within a live rail environment, all works required careful coordination with NEWest and PTA under strict rail safety protocols.

The scope of works included:

  • 3 stormwater detention tanks (ranging up to 3500m3)
  • 8 stormwater retention tanks (ranging 1000m3)
  • Approx 10+ km RCP drainage
  • Approx 1.5+ km RCB culverts
  • 1.5+ km ACO drains
  • 30+ FRP structural pit upgrades within the rail corridor
  • Detailed earthworks included:
    • preparation of rock batters using breakers and rock wheels
    • general batter construction
    • V drains
    • swale drains
    • rock pitching preparation
    • in-ground services.
  • Bulk earthworks (Cut & Disposal of 50,000m3)
  • Construction of road pavement and brick paved roads for access roads and carparks
  • Preparation of garden beds/eco beds.
